Thumbnail Info

Sorry this is a bit late, but here's the sequences for thumbnailing.

1) Helicopter arriving and dropping cages ---> implant engaging and first entry into mind world
(Derek, Allison, Rob)

2)Gorilla being in soldier mode --->explosion
(Danny, Dave, Alexis)

3)Going back into mind world and seeing it crack, waking up after explosion---->encountering a live soldier
(Lily, Nathan Angel)

4) Going back into soldier mode and having cracks in mind world start to close up again ---> walking back into jungle (end)
(Jeremy, Randolph, Elton)

And Im...... Spent

And Now I'm Going To Bed...

Bleah. Some of these take some pretty extreme liberties with Jer's design. I was trying to stick to the sort of pyramidal shape he used for the head but look at different ways of filling that space. Not all winners, obviously, but there are a couple I like. I also included the face that people thought looked 'cute' from before (the one in blue pencil). And below are a couple of helicopter concepts. I realize we're not working on that just yet, but they're in my sketchbook so they might as well be here.
Oh, and Lily, I uploaded the support gorilla designs from the funpack to 4shared, so it's there now too.

wheee + meeting prep

images that hopefully are not entirely useless:

my take on the gorilla dude:

NEXT UP:
1) storyboard
2) design pack
3) leica reel (? correct me if I'm wrong)

TOMORROW'S MEETING:
let's all gather round and storyboard. after natalie's class, all the way until lifedrawing! since storyboards are due next friday....... let's fill our little section with billions of yellow sticky notes like so many christmas lights!

so uh... goal = storyboard the whole story in detail. we've got 12 people, we can do this! we should also print out our characters and take a look at what everyone's got, then narrow it down further.

derek and I have 24 pads of sticky notes between us, I'll sell mine at 2 bucks a pad. so just come ready to board, and bring a printout of your character design. if anyone else has suggestions for the meeting, bring it up!

Armour Ideas

Super-fast PS sketches. Messing around with a few different shapes and colours...variations on a theme, really. The stripes would complicate things (and occasionally look excessively Clone Trooper-ish), but they are kinda fun.

Gorilla Sketches

Mind World

It would be sweet if stylistically the mind world was totally different to reality in order to establish the two as separate states. As mentioned before, I thought perhaps we could go really abstract with the 'environment'. I don't know why exactly but I think a few of us agreed it should be black and white... It's a really kind of fun challenge to figure out what the hell this thing is going to be like - so please - feel free to start concepting/brainstorming some stuff for it.

Bear in mind these qualities:
-Trapped
-Enclosing
-Imposing
-Frightening
-Restraining

DQ's Thoughts on film

Hey guys, I think one or two of you had written this down also.. but I am just going to throw it up here since it is already typed-

EXPOSITION:

-Starts right into the battle
-Other Gorillas Mean, banging on cages
-Peacefull gorilla at the start (shows character)
-Cages already open- the Gorillas that occupied them are engaged at different times and run off into the warzone (Thus having

no time to relate to them)
-A cage lands in the foreground/middle ground - Curious and yet still peacefull our gorilla comes out
-Chopper that held this cage flies off screen left
-Gorilla will react to other apes engaging
-Gorilla then is engaged and is sent off (need to show he is unique/different then the other gorillas)

When Gorillas around dead, scary to our Gorilla

Formulating differences between real world and mind world

WAYS TO TIE IN THE MIND WORLD AND THE REAL WORLD:

-Beeping sounds coming from implant or other sounds - when in mind world you can hear those same sounds, perhaps louder..

more reverberated

-"Eyes to the soul" Eyes turn white, no pupils and we enter the mind state through the eyes at least once to show the audience this.. then they will understand from that point on

He must be formulating the differences between the real world and the mind world (Piecing it together along with the

audience)

REALLY PUSH CLIMAX:

-Flashing rapidly wetween states
-Fighting enemy soldier with gun
-Shot fires off and grazes shoulder of Gorilla.. He knows now what the gun is/does
-He grabs the soldier (Around throat with one hand, gun in other still fighting) -Will he kill soldier?
-He then slowly turns the gun towards his own head - What? will he kill himswelf?
-Shot fires and implant is destroyed, wall inside mind crumbles- room fills with light, light is soldiers eyes and pupils

return- The ape is now free of implant
-He drops gasping soldier and crushes gun easily, throwing it aside. The soldier confused but knowing he is no match when un

armed scurry's out of frame

(has to realize to survive he must break free) Doesnt care whether it will kill him or not, better that then trapped in mind

and killing against will

END:

-Happy dance, runs off screen left into the thick of the jungle- Goes into "Natural Cave"
-slowly truck out to reveal he is in a safe haven untouched by the warzone around
-Birds added for awesomeness and depth/atmosphere (they can perhaps fly into the same haven as the gorilla since it is safe

MOTIF's TO KEEP IN MIND:

-Struggle
-Cage
-War inside mind
-Cave

Moral 1+ do et!
