Rough Character Line up

*update:Tank increased, should i make him bigger? or smaller?

Heres a rough character line up
-any changes you think should be made just leave a comment and I'll get on it,
or if you wanna do it in PS and just post.
-should be good though

From researching
Silverback gorilla's heads are double to double and a half bigger than the humans. Also thats pretty much how they treated it in tarzan (almost 2 3\4ths the size of a humans head)
but our main gorrillas temple isnt so elongated so 2-1\4ths to 2-1\2 should be fine i think.
-Our humans full head inst exposed but you can pretty much eyeball it from the eyes down

when the big silver backs stand on fours they are roughly up to the beginning of humans neck to a little below it regardless I'm thinking the bigger the better for exaggeration purposes.

Jungle Inspiration

Everyone's boards were looking pretty f'n sweet yesterday - Monday's final results should be interesting to see.

As we work on developing a style for our characters we should also keep in mind a style for our locations as well. "Semi-realistic" is a good term for a start but defining it further so that everyone in the group is developing the same basic location would be ideal. this would create the feeling of all the scenes being in the one jungle - just in different locations within it.

Here are a few samples of plant life found within jungles. Feel free to use any of it - just keep in mind everything is HUGE - even the plants that look little on this page are actually rather large.

I also took some snapshots of the Gobelins' film Voodoo for inspiration for everyone. The layouts in this film are great at creating the illusion of depth and mystery of a jungle.

Please don't steal or copy from these pics - they are here to look upon for inspiration only.

Even during fast action scenes there should be a feeling of these elements within the shot. Even when blurred you can still get a sense of location..

I hope this helps or at the least inspires some of you - jungles can be somewhat of a pain to draw - creating something less generic can be even more a pain.

Later Daze!

storyboards

hey everyone;

as a reminder tomorrow the ROUGH CLEAN storyboards are due. We are using graphite - plain pencil - to do our boards... so no photoshop or marker please! you can use blue color-erase pencil as a base but dont make a mess of your boards!

if you havent gotten a copy of the template for our boards - i left a few on my desk and otherwise i have a copy on me - so message me on msn if you need it.. i would be happy to send it to you.

here's the example from Natalie's handouts on what she expects visually from our storyboards...

hope that helps anyone who's unsure of the clean rough ...

later daze all!

fun pack

Hey guys,

These are just characters. we gotta keep a few things in mind before boarding.

- for the people boarding the climax which is the gun struggle, you must come up with a simple gun design so there isn't any inconsistency. Also, use the big soldier for that sequence.
- on the first page, for the main gorilla, combine jeremy's character's face to my character's body.

If any of you guys wanna board at school, please do for some of us will there, we can help each other out you know. FOR THE BOARDS, THE MORE PANELS, THE BETTER.

On Friday meeting, if we see some inconsistency from you boards then well have to change it and refine it for the clean up stage for monday. On that meeting we're gonna put everything together so try to keep the characters on model. Make sure you're there for Friday meeting because we're gonna be talking about a lot of things regarding design pack.

If any of you guys have any questions about your scenes or anything, feel free to ask me or anyone.

Thanks,
-Ran

storyboarding timee

so, could whoever has the real funpack put it up on 4shared or something?
and let's all decide on a template to board on.

these are natalie's requirements for the rough-clean storyboard:
-obvious layout and perspective
-characters/props on model
-no silhouttes, blurry images (no cheating, I guess she means)
-no chunky vector lines
-STAY ON MODEL (she puts in bold)

---

some cool pictures. not all relevent, but I like the atmosphere, the colors, the use of space.... and the coolness.

BREAK IT UP!

Alright people, the moment you've been waiting for. We finished the thumbnail boards - bravo. It's going to work like this: We divided all the panels into 12 equal sections which work out to about 14 boards each. Please also do connection boards (perhaps 1 extra at before your section and 1 after) if possible. This will tie everything together nicely.

OVERLAP IS PERFECTLY FINE

So here we go.. I divided our panels into sections A-L. You are to sign up for the section you want to board in the comments section of this post. Certain people really wanted certain sections so those have already been taken.

1. Here are the High-Res Boards for your reference.

2. Here are the Boards divded into their sections.
The sections have been corrected - there are now 12 proper sections. Please check the new divisions to make sure you are doing the right panels or re-select your section.

STORYBOARD SECTION SIGN UP:

1. [A] Rob
2. [B] Allison
3. [C] Alexis
4. [D] Danny
5. [E] Dave
6. [F] Angel
7. [G] Lily
8. [H] Elton
9. [I] Derek
10. [J] Randolph
11. [K] Jeremy
12. [L] Nathan

Hey guys...

Hey guys i just wanted to appaulogize for my lack of effort thus far. I was going through some pretty rough weeks and i know its not an excuse but i hope you can understand. I know some group members arent happy with my performance so far but i just want you all to know that i feel really stupid about it and that i promise you will see a lot more from me.

Hope you can all forgive me and im exited to get back to working on our film.

Dave

Special FX

So hopefully these images will speak for themselves. They really clearly illustrate how even though special FX like smoke, clouds, fire, water, etc, are often drawn flat and filled in, they should always be thought of structurally just as you would a character. Hope this helps.

FRIDAY

SAT/SUN

also, I'm not sure how many people here are familiar with a 'forum'. >_>
you can see the forum I made at http://threelittlepegs.freeforums.org.
the advantage of forums over blogs is that there's more discussion, more involvement. and with features like 'search' and all the categories, it's much more organized. the disadvantages are that pictures should be uploaded to an imagehosting site (like photobucket) to look nice. pictures *can* be directly attached to messages, but it doesn't look as fancy haha. you guys can sign up and try it out, see if you can get used to it. if people like it, we can replace this blog with the forum. but only if you guys find it easy enough to use!
sorry I introduced it so late. ):

game plan

Ok fellas, here's the game plan for tomorrow. We're gonna have our meeting with DQ and we'll talk about designs. We're gonna show him a lot of our stuff. After that, we can have a meeting discuss and pick out the stuff we like, characters, layouts, props, and effects. If some drawings need editing and refining then we can do it quickly at that meeting. After that people can have their Literature and by the time you guys finish, the people who don't have Lit such as I, Derek, Allison, Elton and Lily will have the fun pack ready for everyone so we can work on our storyboards.

And as for the thumbnails for tomorrow, well talk about them after DQ's meeting. We might even have a meeting after Lit, just for the thumbnails, but that's only if it's ok with ya'll. Because I know some don't like having a lot of meetings.

Is that OK with everybody?

I'm letting everyone know this so we know what we're doing tomorrow. This saves time.

Thanks,

-Ran
