video
I showed it to my friend without telling her anything prior. and she got it!!! success! well done everyone! :D :D :D
however, she feels the ending isn't satisfying. it just ends, she says, it doesn't wrap up. like, she said there was the struggle between the gorilla and the soldier, what happens to their relationship there? she said she'd actually like to see them hug (although that's probably a bit too corny!!). and she says, so what? what does this change, this one gorilla's freedom? what about the other gorillas? and in the pan-out, why is everywhere peaceful? isn't there a war still on-going?
I agree that the ending feels a bit anticlimactic, loose...
if everyone can think about the ending, that'd be nice. brainstorm some possibilities? we can talk about it when we get back. I'd actually like to work on this in the week before school starts, if anyone's up for it. just so everything's ready for production.
in any case, she completely understands the story!! 'so, the gorillas are being mind-controlled, and this one gorilla escapes his device' wooo :D there's certainly things we can tweak, but for the most part, I think we're good.
and here's a rough animation tryout for our Mango Guy. Manguy?

Sup Lily!!
Thanks for posting this. Its been about 3 weeks since I've last watched it and the little break has helped me stand back and see it a lot more clearly.
2mins ago I showed it to my brother and his reaction was pretty much the same as mine - I couldn't help but feel like, so what? Whats the point of the film? I didn't learn anything, or there was nothing about it that made me reflect on myself or question anything. I agree I think we need to think of a cooler/more satisfying ending for sure. (Im still in favour of the bombs going off shot with him in the tree).
To be honest, I don't really feel much for our gorilla. I didn't really care if he made it out alive or not because there wasn't anything about him that generated sympathy or respect.
It probably would be good if we all showed this to anyone you can to generate some ideas on how to make it better.
I still think if we play around with the last few seconds before we cut to the ending with the jungle establishing shot. It would answer more questions for the dumb people that are still questioning the intent of the gorilla etc.
Im gonna draw up some panels and see if we can address this issue etc.(Mainly because I cant wait to get back into our group film)
By the way, I know this might not work with the film, but I was showing this to beth, and she was suggusting the gorilla take his implant and stick it on the human.
Is it just me, or does that seem like it doesnt work with our film.(I figure I just throw that out there)
^sounds like the suggestion about the human actually being a gorilla under the human skin? haha
although, I think intent of the gorilla is clear enough. I just agree with Jeremy that the feeling of the whole thing is too 'so what?'.
my opinion is that the story's fine, the only thing that needs changing is the way we tell it.
The action sequences will work themselves out, the important parts we need to spend the time on is the exposition and the climax(fight with soldier over gun) to the end of course
