Archer

alright guys, so I have taken everyones input and sketches and this is what has come out of it- His Name is Archer (or archie) as Mango is no more - if people are really attached to mango he can be a secondary. What do you think about having the stripes on the chest?

Nate

(Ignore how close together the feet/hands are.. in an actual pose they would be spread further apart along the ground plane)

* Edit* I Moved the jaw down, more squared off.. this guy is going to look so much more intimidating when staring down at the soldier then mango ever would!

Dude....I love it. I love the name, love the look. Love the stripes on the chest (though I'm not sure if I like them best on the chest or the shoulder). Hmmm...what if he's the only one that had the stripes? A rank thing? I dunno, I know we were wanting to stay away from him being a leader or whatever, but it's a thought.

Nitpicky thing...I might bring in the line on his calf so it's not bulging quite so much, but overall, I think this is our guy. I think the design is really appealing, and he looks strong and intimidating, fits in with the rest of the gorillas, and is overall way bitchin'.

I brought the jaw down a bit as per further discussion- As for Rank, could be a thought- course then I Saw Robs post on the calf.. I will keep that in mind tomorrow when doing the poses

YES!!!!!

Think we found it boys - good job Nate.

I agree tho, if were going to HAVE stripes - lets put them on the shoulder instead. The purpose of the stripes was really to break up the lack of detail on the body as a whole. So... yea, nice.

As for the calf, I actually think its ok as is.

If we bring it in more, then its not as strong a shape, which means it will be an inbetween shape - which means its not a shape. It should either be STRONG or w e a k. Either there or not. Not halfway, undecided, sorta kinda.

Also, another reason why I like the stripes on the shoulder - just as DQ mentioned our humans needed a curve at the neck to help sell direction - the stripes are a visual cue that this is the SIDE of the gorilla. When we DONT see them, it means were looking at the front or back - it helps sell dimension.

I just remembered what we talked about when pushing it, right now were pretty content - but what if we pushed it 10% more? Just to see whats at the top..

I think that the pushing it will come with the animation, right now it is a static drawing- when I do the action poses we will see, there might be subtle changes- for the most part this needs to be the final because no more time can be spent or things aren't going to get done. As for the shoulders.. they dont have armour on them remember, we decided it looked better without the armour to break it up

DONT NEED ARMOR ON SHOULDERS >.< for them to be there!

Well, as stated, I really love the design, and I think the jaw is a lot stronger now, which is a good change. I think Jeremy makes a good point, though. I mean everything that was said on Friday is really only words unless we put it into practice. I realize it's been a long, long road getting to this point with our main character, but maybe there IS a way to push it that extra little bit and make it even more awesome...? Maybe during the poses try very consciously to see what works and what could be improved, try pushing things in the thumbnails and see if something reveals itself that might make the character even better.

As for the stripes, that's something I guess we can talk about as a group. I know we'd decided that the shoulders were going to be unarmoured, but I don't think anything should be final until it's final. I know there is a contingent of us (well, okay, maybe it's just Jeremy and I, for all I know) who still like the idea of the stripes. Maybe we can chat about/vote on it tomorrow.

All that said, I'm just wrapping up the revised Tank design. I'm sure there will be feedback and changes to be made on him too, so I'll bring him (and hopefully a finished Butch) for you guys to critique tomorrow.
